This project will be carried out in Bologna as part of the conversion project of the former "Manifattura Tabacchi" into Tecnopolo and involves the construction of a data center that will host the pre-exascale supercomputing system acquired by the JU EuroHPC and hosted and managed from CINECA, and the data center of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics CNAF of the Bologna office.
The complex of the former Tobacco Factory, originally designed by Eng. Pierluigi Nervi, has been declared of historical and artistic interest and is protected by the Cultural Heritage Superintendence. The historical parts are integrated in a coherent way with the new buildings, recovering and enhancing the characteristics of the buildings designed by Nervi.
The CINECA-INFN Data Center will be located in 3 existing buildings (B5, C2 and G3) and in a new building called G1 (hosting the MEP systems), connected to C2 by 4 underground tunnels.
The building will be certified according to the LEED v.4 standard for BD + C: Data Center, Gold or higher.
