MODERNIZATION OF THE RAILWAY LINE CIRCUMETNEA IN THE PATERNÒ- ADRANO SECTION - ITALY

Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport - Directorate General for Local Public Transport - Government Management of "Circumetnea" RailwayWorks description. The project is foresees to strengthen and modernize the existing out of town section between the cities of Paternò and Adrano, for a length of about 17 km. The whole present section, by single track and narrow gauge line, will be upgraded to single track, which will allow its conversion to standard gauge electrified at 3000 V DC. Since the beginning of the works to the entrance of the tunnel passing under the city of Santa Maria di Licodia with a length of lm.3.597,24, the track runs on the surface. Immediately after, the tunnel long lm. 2507.32 that passes under the city of Santa Maria di Licodia is made in the first part in overburden and for the most part in natural deep tunnel. There is an exterior section with a length of lm. 738.00 up to the entrance of the next tunnel with a length of lm. 3165.79. From the exit of the Biancavilla tunnel up to the entrance of those of Adrano, there is a line segment with a  length of lm. 1678.49. The next section is made of the tunnel passing under the city of Adrano, with a length of lm. 2083.46.
