Ebolowa – Akom II – Kribi Road Project 27 Ottobre 2025
The project involves the construction of a new 180 km road between Ebolowa, Akom II and Kribi, replacing the existing unpaved N17 track. This infrastructure will connect the new deep-water port of Kribi to the eastern regions of Cameroon, ensuring a reliable and secure connection along a key corridor for the country’s commercial, logistical and industrial development.
The project also carries a strong social dimension: it will help end the periodic isolation of local
communities, improving living conditions in rural areas and facilitating access to essential services
such as healthcare, education and markets. Particular attention has been given to traditional ethnic
minorities, such as the Pygmy communities, through dedicated inclusion and consultation initiatives
developed in accordance with IFC Performance Standards, which ensure the protection of Indigenous
Peoples’ rights and the promotion of shared benefits.
The social component of the project also includes the preparation and implementation of a RAP
(Resettlement Action Plan), aimed at guaranteeing a fair compensation and resettlement process for
affected households, while minimising construction-related impacts and contributing to an overall
improvement in living standards.
In parallel, in collaboration with specialised organisations such as IUCN (International Union for
Conservation of Nature), extensive environmental impact studies have been carried out to the highest
international standards, with the objective of safeguarding the exceptional biodiversity of the tropical
forest areas crossed by the new alignment.
